Australian Flag wavingThe Australian flag was raised for the first time in Melbourne on 3 September 1901, following a design competition that drew 32,823 entries. 

The stars of the Southern Cross represent Australia’s geographic position in the Southern Hemisphere, and the large Commonwealth star symbolises the federation of states and territories.  The symbol of the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders is a red and black flag with a large yellow circle, first flown in 1971.

Rock carvings, body painting and ground designs were the initial forms of artistic Aboriginal expression. The world’s oldest known art was created around BC43,000 by Aboriginal people, who engraved animal images on rocks in the Olary region of South Australia.

Top 20 Airports in the World 2012

The results came in today of the Top 20 Airports in the World at the annual Skytrax World Airport Awards.
Voted by 12 million passengers, 385 airports were judged.
Sydney came in 20th.  That's a jump from 40th last year. 
Well done Sydney.
